EDUCATION AND CAREER
Chris Wilmar started his career in 1990 by undertaking a 5-year architectural draughting cadetship. He furthered his university education and qualifications to become a registered architect in both Australia and New Zealand. He is a premium-Plus member of the Australian Institute of Architects and life member of the National Trust Australia. His background specialist skills as documentation architect include working on very large and complex projects, developing detailed design outcomes for major public sector architects and engineers.
Out of self-interest, Chris completed a post graduate elective in traditional architectural watercolour taught by an elderly Dutch tutor. This sparked his enthusiasm to revive a lost art form and a passion for combining art with architecture soon unfolded. Chris’s European upbringing and parents love for art, travel and antiques saw a liking for period and classical architecture where watercolour is particularly well suited. Chris undertakes many watercolour master classes by internationally recognised artists. He regularly sketches and paints in “plein-air” Chris recently attended the 2019 Academy Travel study tour “Lakes and villas of Northern Italy” by renowned historian Michael Turner. In September 2022 Chris will join renowned Australian artist Ev Hales on her 2022 Portugal and Morocco Watercolour Masterclass.
