Wilmar Schutz is a unique Melbourne based studio founded in 2012 using the Wilmar family name in-conjunction with our renowned Schutz seascape painting family from Middelburg in the Netherlands. In 1990, Chris Wilmar started his career by undertaking a 5-year architectural draughting cadetship with Fletcher Building now NZ’s largest privately owned company. He furthered his university education and qualifications to become a registered architect in both Australia and New Zealand. He is a premium A+ member of the Australian Institute of Architects and life member of the National Trust Australia. His background specialist skills as an architect include working on very large and complex projects, developing detailed design outcomes for major public sector architects and engineers.

Out of self-interest, Chris completed a post graduate elective in traditional architectural watercolour taught by a senior Dutch tutor and architect. This sparked his enthusiasm to revive a lost art form and a passion for combining art with architecture progressively unfolded. Chris’s rural upbringing and parents love for art, travel and antiques saw a liking for period and classical architecture where watercolour is particularly well suited. Wilmar Schutz blends its proven reputation from years of professional experience in architecture and specialist watercolour skills to produce stunning architectural watercolour portraits for period and historic buildings. Chris continues to develop and explore watercolour master classes by internationally recognised artists. He regularly sketches and paints in “plein-air” and recently embarked on “Italian Lakes and villas” 2019 study tour by well known historian Michael Turner from Academy Travel This year, Chris joins renowned Australian artist Ev Hales on her 2022 Portugal and Morocco Watercolour Masterclass.
