Sciography

Sciography, the science behind the calculation of cast and projected shadow forms can get very complicated. Wilmar Schütz use traditional shadow analysis to test light source, tonal-values, and shadow-massing for their architectural watercolours. The sun’s direction and intensity determine how architectural form and illumination is presented. The area where light does not fall, remains in shade and the shadows that are cast can dramatise the subject. Quality of light, play key-roles how depth, mood and atmosphere are incorporated into each architectural portrait. The projection of refracted light into shadow massing is of particular interest because this informs the liveliness of finished artwork. Wilmar Schütz use international sciography conventions to calculate their shadow geometry.
